What if I can't make these changes?
Don't worry. If this seems too complicated, you can buy now a new domain for your profile or short links. This has the advantage that we take care of all the technical configurations (DNS) so you can start using it without having to worry about anything. It only takes 5 minutes. How do I use a custom domain name for my communication profile: links, news, categories,...?

First, you must have purchased a domain. For example: yourwebsite.com

To display your profile on your website we recommend that the domain that you add is in the form of a subdomain, because otherwise your website will stop working. For example, if your website is yourwebsite.com, you could add the domain "news.yourwebsite.com". You can put whatever you want in place of "press". Only if you want your profile to appear as the main page of your website you must use the form yourwebsite.com or www.yourwebsite.com

You must bear in mind that if you want to show your profile in the top-level domain (tuweb.com) you can not use it at the same time to create short links. If you want to use your domain, at the same time, to show your profile and create short links you must add two domain entries in your settings page (https://clickug.com/settings/domains). For example:
1 "yourwebsite.com" for your short links.
2 "anything.yourwebsite.com" for your communication profile.

Once you have added your branded domain in your account (https://clickug.com/settings/domains), to start using it to show your communication profile, you need to log in to your domain's registar and add the following DNS records to the DNS zone depending on where you like to host your profile:

Note: If there is already a A / CNAME record for the same host, replace it with the data below.

OPTION 1
On a top-level domain (e.g. yourwebsite.com)

Main record

Name/Host: @
TTL: 43200 (or 12 hours)
Record type: A
Value/Points to IP: 54.203.244.53

OPTIONAL: If you want your profile to also work on www.[yourwebsite], add the following record:
Name/Host: www
TTL: 43200 (or 12 hours)
Record type: CNAME
Value/Points to: @

Here is an example of correct DNS settings:

Ownership verification record

This ensures that you are the actual owner of this domain and prevents others from displaying their content in your domain.

Name/Host: @
TTL: 86400 (or 24 hours)
Record type: TXT
Value/Points to: clickug-verification=[replace-by-the-code-we-send-you-by-email]

OPTION 2
On a subdomain (e.g. www.yourwebsite.com or press.yourwebsite.com)

Main record

Name/Host: [anything you want]
TTL: 43200 (or 12 hours)
Record type: A
Value/Points to IP: 54.203.244.53

Here is an example of correct DNS settings:

Ownership verification record

This ensures that you are the actual owner of this domain and prevents others from making use of it to create short links.
Name/Host: [the same as before]
TTL: 86400 (or 24 hours)
Record type: TXT
Value/Points to: clickug-verification=[replace-by-the-code-we-send-you-by-email]

Troubleshooting

Do I need to change the nameservers for my domain?
Nope, just the A-record or CNAME record depending on levels in your domain. A records and CNAME records are different from nameservers (such as ns1.godaddy.com), which Clickug does not provide. If you are being asked to enter a nameserver, please use the one provided by your registrar, which should allow you to set an A record and/or CNAME from within your registrar’s dashboard.

How do I know if I set up my domain properly?
You will receive a confirmation email when all is correct. It can take up to 72 hours for DNS changes to propagate.

If you have followed the instructions but your custom domain still isn’t working, remember:
- You must wait up to 72 hours since you modify DNS.
- Log in to your registrar's web site and verify the A and/or CNAME records(s) you entered match the instructions above.
- Go to https://clickug.com/settings/domains and look in the list if the configuration data match the one you used?
- Some registrars require that the A/CNAME/TXT hostname and value ends with a dot (.). Try changing the values of those records from subdomain.domain.com to subdomain.domain.com. (note the final dot).
